Youth Ministry: April News

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great time celebrating Easter and reflecting on the wonderful gift of salvation that we now have through Jesus Christ! This month in April we begin to think about transitions. In particular, the transitions of the graduating grade 12 class as they prepare to join our adult small group ministry. Just as last year, the reason we transition our grade 12’s in May is so that they can have time to acclimatize to the adult ministry before we send them off into the post-secondary world. This way, whenever they return to visit, they’ll already have community established with the older bunch. Transitioning them now also gives them the opportunity to mingle with those who are already in post-secondary and so they can glean from their wisdom on what to expect for their big transition in September.

So for all grade 12’s, you’ll be transitioning over starting in May and we’ll have our official kick-off on Sunday May 6 during lunch. From then onward, you’ll be transitioning either to our summer group which is in combination with all the out-of-town post-secondary students on Mondays or, if your schedule doesn’t line up, then you’ll be joining the Friday group.

On a side note, please know that I’ll be out of town for a conference from May 10 – 14. I’ll be at the Together for the Gospel conference in Louisville, Kentucky. I should still have some access to email and messages while I’m away though.

Aside from that, here’s what’s happening in the fellowships.

Summer Small Group Kick-Off – May 6, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm @ CCAC, Room 5
As mentioned above, we’ll be kicking-off our summer group on May 6. This small group will run weekly on Mondays from 7:30 pm (location TBD) from May to August. Any grade 12 students (or out-of-town students) who can’t attend on Mondays will be welcomed to join the Friday group instead which runs from 7:30 pm at the church. All grade 12 students should attend!

Transition 101 – June 2, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm @ Wycliffe College, Toronto
This is the transition event for all grade 12 students and their parents. This full day conference is hosted by all the major Christian fellowship found at Ontario universities. Everyone from Power to Change, Inter-Varsity, Ambassadors for Christ, and Navigators will be there. This event introduces transitioning grade 12’s to the various fellowships at their prospective schools and it allows for them to meet the current leaders in those fellowships as well as other Christians who will be heading to those schools. For parents, this conference is especially helpful for those who are sending their first kid to post-secondary. A separate conference track is available for parents where they talk about various parenting issues and concerns related to sending off your kids. Blessings,
Darren
