Youth Ministry: August News

We’re now into the last month of the summer break. For the many high school students who were in summer school, summer’s really just beginning, so enjoy these last few weeks! Parents, on the other hand, will be perhaps be more excited that September will coming soon and their kids will be out of the house again!

So with that in mind, September is just around the corner. In terms of graduations, all grades should look to move up effective September 1. This means that the new Grade 7’s will be joining the English service and 412 Fellowship starting September 2 and September 7 respectively; and the new Grade 9’s will be joining Themelios starting September 7. For any questions about these transitions, feel free to give me a shout!

In the meantime, here’s what’s happening in the weeks ahead! Please note the cancellations!

PARENTS’ FORUM

For all parents, our next Forum will be held on Sunday, August 12 at 1:00 pm at the church. Last time we had the ladies share about their transitions to the post-secondary world. This time, we’ll have the gentlemen share. Come hear their stories and ask your questions! For further information, please feel free to message P. Anthony or myself.

YOUTH NEWS

Themelios on August 10 & 17
As many of you know, our high school fellowship is run predominantly by a Committee that is made up of youth from the fellowship. From this past year’s Committee, one of the key pieces of feedback that we received was the need for further training and team-building within the Committee itself. So, in order for us to do this, we’re going to try something new this year by pausing Themelios for two weeks in order for the counsellors to be able to focus on training the new Committee members. However, we do recognize that people still want to fellowship! So, for these two weeks, the church will still be open for youths to just come hang out but please note that there will be no official program.

Themelios Cancelled on August 24 and All Cancelled on August 31
On August 24, Themelios will be cancelled as Priscilla and myself, along with nine of the youths, will be away in Mexico. As such, fellowship will be cancelled this week; 412 will still have a program though. Then, on August 31, both fellowships will be cancelled in preparation for the new school/fellowship year the week after.

Frosh Connexion – Tuesday, August 21, 5:00 pm @ North York Chinese Baptist Church
Again for all graduating Grade 12 students going to post-secondary! This is an event for you, especially if you missed the actual Transitions 101. While this isn’t the same as Transitions 101, this event is run exclusively by AFC (the people from Chinese/Asian Christian Fellowships at the various schools and events like Teens Conference). If you’re interested in CCF/ACF, register and check out this event. Details and registration here.

Mexico STM Fundraising
From August 19 – 26, twelve of us will be going to Tijuana, Mexico in partnership with Mexico Caravan Ministries to build homes for those in need. If you’re interested in supporting us, go to our website at mexico.ccac.church and see how you can partner with us there. Also check out our Offering Wall outside the gym and consider grabbing an envelope and donating to support us! We’re well over half way there to our goal of raising $10,000!

THE TRUTH EXPEDITION

Have you heard of this before? Have you checked it out? If you didn’t know, this is a YouTube channel that’s run by our youth here that focuses on answering the questions of life and faith. It’s run by the youth, for the youth. This summer, we’ve been blessed to have Miranda and Hallie working as summer interns at the church with a focus on expanding this ministry. If you haven’t seen the work that this team has produced, check it out here. And don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

Hope you all enjoy this last month of the summer break!

Blessings,
Pastor Darren
