Youth Ministry: January News

I heard someone lament the other day, “It’s been five years since this year started.” This has definitely felt like a LONG year. But yet, Lord willing, this year will actually be coming to a close and we’ll be heading into the 2,021st year of our Lord in a couple of days. How’s this year been for you? Pause and take a moment to reflect.

  • What have been the greatest spiritual challenges this year?
  • What have been the greatest joys that God has graced you with despite the challenges?

It’s certainly quite easy for us to focus on all the negatives of the year. But I’m reminded that we’re actually right where we’re supposed to be. If our God is indeed sovereign over all things, then it’s been by his good providence that we’re where we are right now in this pandemic. In other words, God’s plan is still being worked out for his glory and for our sanctification in and through this pandemic. If this is so, then we’d be wise to carefully discern the Lord’s shepherding of our souls in this time and take heed of his leadership.

How can we do that? The New Year is often a time where Christians reflect on and evaluate their Bible reading habits. There’s no time like the present to kickstart those habits again as we flip the calendar over. R.C. Sproul said, “The Scriptures are absolutely key in the process by which the Spirit gives–and strengthens–the faith of Christians,” and this is most certainly something we all need as we press on in these challenging times.

So, consider (re)starting a Bible reading plan this year! Check out this list of plans and pick one that works for you. It doesn’t matter which one you choose, the important thing is that you’re reading God’s Word and receiving your daily bread. Perhaps go above and beyond and find yourself an accountability partner to read alongside too. Better yet, consider reading together as a family. Let’s journey together!

I pray that we would be such a Scripture-saturated people as we enter 2021. May this be our top resolution for the year. Our lives are empowered and transformed when God’s Word is the meditation of our hearts!

As we head into 2021, here’s what’s happening in our youth groups.

Themelios Winter Camp
While I’m sure this comes as no surprise to anyone, I’m still saddened to officially announce that the Themelios Winter Camp is cancelled for this December. Depending on the progression of the pandemic, we hope that we would be able to reschedule it for a later date but as of now, we’ll have to go our first year without one. Sorry!
