Youth Ministry: January News

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Just a few more days and it’ll be 2018, so Happy New Year! With the new year, it’s a great time for a bit of a personal reboot. Whether you believe in or make new year resolutions, this is a great time to evaluate the past year and to set new goals for the year ahead. Perhaps it’s to pick up on a family devotional time or a personal devotional time; perhaps it’s love more and to be more generous; perhaps it’s to serve in new capacities; perhaps it’s to spend more time with family or friends — whatever it may be for you, I hope that you have a blessed start to the New Year!

Here in the Youth Ministry, we have some exciting news to kick-off the 2018. But first, on a note of departure, Lewis Leung who has been serving diligently in Themelios for many years has been called to a new ministry opportunity. Starting in 2018, Lewis will be serving as a deacon in the adult ministry. In particular, he’ll be helping to care for the small group ministry. While we’re sad to see him go, we’re excited to see how God will be empowering him to serve in this new area. Please pray for him as he takes on this new role!

On the note of deacons, for the first time ever, we have a deacon in the Youth Ministry! Martin Wong who has been serving in Themelios for over a year now will be taking on the office of deacon as well for this ministry. While his role as a counsellor will remain the same, Martin will be serving in greater capacities through helping to shape and materialize the longer term vision and strategy for the Youth Ministry as a whole. Please pray for him as his takes up this role!

Finally, after months of prayer, God has raised up a new female counsellor to serve in Themelios. Starting immediately, Priscilla Li will be stepping up to serve in this ministry. Please pray for her as well as she embarks to discover God’s calling for her in this new role.

So it’s an exciting year ahead! I’m looking forward to journeying alongside all of you in 2018.

Themelios Retreat – Countryside Camp, December 29 – January 19
For full details, click here. Please remember to only bring one piece of luggage and a sleeping bag (remember that your luggage needs to fit on your lap for the bus ride!). Youth are also strongly encouraged from bringing any electronics. Let’s properly retreat from our distractions! For any emergencies, please give me a call. New Year’s Eve Service – Sunday, December 31, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Since the 31st falls on a Sunday this year, we’ll be having a joint service in lieu of the evening countdown celebration that we usually have.

Mexico Caravan Ministries STM – August 19 – 26, 2018
We have a new STM opportunity next year in August to Tijuana, Mexico. Click here for full details. For any high school students interested, please apply by January 14.
