Youth Ministry: July News

Youth Ministry: July News

Over the past month, I’ve been reflecting a lot on how we can apply ourselves more strategically in the Youth Ministry in terms of goals and vision. In terms of vision, the mandate in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) to make disciples of all peoples is what directs us. But how do we actually go about doing this in the context of Youth Ministry? At our Parents’ Forum last Friday, I shared these five goals which I believe contributes to that vision.

  1. To expose youth to the wonders of the Gospel
  2. To anchor youth in their relationship with Christ
  3. To connect youth into the life of the church
  4. To prepare youth for adulthood and the world
  5. To partner with parents in all of the above
I’ll elaborate on what these mean over the weeks and months to come! But these will be the goals by which we’ll aim to set, streamline, and prioritize our ministries.
In the meanwhile, here’s what’s happening in the weeks ahead!

PARENTS’ FORUM

Our next one will be held on Friday, July 27 at 7:45 pm at the church. The topic of this discussion is still to be finalized but I’m hoping to invite a few a gentlemen this time who are already in post-secondary to talk a bit about their journey in transitions. Stay tuned for details and I hope that you’ll come join the conversation! For further questions, please feel free to message P. Anthony or myself.

GRADE 12 TRANSITIONS

Grade 12 “Transitions 101” BBQ – Sunday, July 29, Time TBD @ Pastor Darren’s
Exclusively for graduating Grade 12 students going to post-secondary! I’m hosting a “Transitions 101” at my place where I’m going to be inviting some of the folks who are already in post-secondary and they’re going to share with you some of their sage wisdom on transitioning and preparing for that next stage of life and you’ll get a chance to ask all your burning questions too. And of course, we’re going to BBQ. Details to come on the Monday Small Group Facebook page or message me for details.

Frosh Connexion – Tuesday, August 21, 5:00 pm @ North York Chinese Baptist Church
Again for all graduating Grade 12 students going to post-secondary! This is an event for you, especially if you missed the actual Transitions 101. While this isn’t the same as Transitions 101, this event is run exclusively by AFC (the people from Chinese/Asian Christian Fellowships at the various schools and events like Teens Conference). If you’re interested in CCF/ACF, register and check out this event. Details and registration here.

OTHER YOUTH NEWS

Mexico STM Fundraising
From August 19 – 26, twelve of us will be going to Tijuana, Mexico in partnership with Mexico Caravan Ministries to build homes for those in need. If you’re interested in supporting us, go to our website at mexico.ccac.church and see how you can partner with us there. Also check out our Offering Wall outside the gym and consider grabbing an envelope and donating to support us! We’re about half way there to our goal of raising $10,000!

Bored at Home this Summer?
Got nothing else going on? Want to just hang out serve at the church? Need some volunteer hours? Chances are, there’s always some work that needs help getting done here at the church. Drop me a message and maybe we can have you come in to do some stuffs here!

OTHER CHURCH NEWS

Garage Sale – Saturday, August 11, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm @ CCAC
Are you interested in selling your own stuff this year at our annual garage sale? Do you have a friend that you’d like to share the Gospel with and who also has lots of stuff to sell? If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to both these questions, we have a great opportunity for you! We’re running our garage sale completely differently this year. Instead of focusing on fundraising, our goal this year will be to build relationships with our friends through selling things together. Check out our info package here for details. Or feel free to ask either myself, Pastor Joe, or Jackie.

Hope you all have a great start to the summer season!

Blessings,
Pastor Darren
